About Cole

Deep Roots in District 5

I was raised right here in State Senate District 5, on a cattle ranch just south of Silt, Colorado. My siblings and I helped my parents irrigate, cut hay, and take care of the place. I attended Re-2 schools and participated in 4-H. Growing up here, I know how hard it can be to make ends meet. I know what it means for your family’s livelihood to depend on water. I have friends and family members who have struggled to keep a roof over their head. I know what it is like to have to choose between staying in Western Colorado or seeking better opportunities elsewhere. In Denver, I will always fight for the working people of our district, because I know where they are coming from.

Advocate for Freedom, Justice & Fairness

I began my career helping freedom fighters, labor organizers, and civil society leaders fighting for human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Burma, North Korea and around the world. I have worked with organizations to enact policies to make sure every school in America, regardless of its ZIP code, has the resources needed for students to succeed. I have helped design and execute research projects and advocacy campaigns to expand voter rights and turnout, promote financial literacy, and document human trafficking. I have spent my adult life fighting for what I believe is right, and I will do that in the State Senate on behalf of our communities.

Small Business Owner & Community Leader

For over 10 years, I have run my own company, helping organizations in the nonprofit space to “do good better” and advising private sector leaders on communication strategies. My partner and I recently launched a recreation and events business, Rislende Events, on the banks of the Colorado River in my hometown of Silt. I serve on two local nonprofit boards, including the Middle Colorado Watershed Council, and I am an active volunteer with a local literacy group and Lift Up. My diverse professional experience, from owning small businesses to working for and supporting nonprofits, to community service, has given me a deep appreciation of the challenges and needs of our communities.
